A calm sea took us to Rosslare in 4 hours.
We arrived at 6:30 PM and started our trip to Meelick House Estate in Whitegate, County Clare.
It took us 4 hours to get there. Nobody told us the roads in Ireland were that narrow. John did a magnificent job driving and we arrived safely at Meelick House about 10 pm.
Fortunately The caretaker Jim was waiting for us with home brewed beer ( a good Irish Stout ) and that cheered us all up.
The stable / coachouse accommodation befitted royalty. The morning sunlight delighted us with amazing views of the estate, lake and countryside.
Our breakfast with home baked bread was great. We then went to Crusheen. It was a beautiful drive through the countryside of County Clare. A visit to the church revealed a christening font that is centuries old. Probably used to baptise Patrick Walsh as a baby in the 1840's. The pub was not yet open so a visit to the Crusheen store more than compensated. There we met the owner Terrence Clarke who arranged contact for us with local historian and genealogist Gerry Kennedy. Gerry is very interested in hearing about the Walsh family in Australia. Gerry also arranged an introduction to James Walsh who was born at Crusheen about 1930 and has returned in his retirement years. A light lunch in Ennis and back to Whitegate were we dined at the Half Barrell Pub while savouring a Guinness.
Friday morning was even brighter and sunnier and after a hearty breakfast prepared by John and Bron we headed to Bunratty Castle. Wow Wow and Wow again. An amazing experience enjoyed by all of us. A thousand years of history. A thousand photographs by Sandy. John can't complain as he took another 200 on top of that. No we won't be downloading them all onto the blog.
The bird life entertained us aswell and showered John with memories ( or should that be mementos) - shit happens-.
A pleasant drive back to Whitegate and another meal at the Half Barrel accompanied by Guinness and lots of laughs with the locals. We were informed that Whitegate is Minogue, country but Kylie must have been in Australia because she wasn't at the pub. A great time in County Clare.
Tomorrow we head back to the east coast and will board the ferry to France where we will continue our education with lots more fun, laughter and fine foods.

Ik raad aan om in Frankrijk ook maar gelijk op zoek te gaan naar een Baret.

Die pet is prachtig maar moet dat gezicht eronder? :D En wat is dat wat jullie doen daar op het bankje, dit kan echt alle kanten op als je er goed naar kijkt. Ik ga uit van het goede en dat je haar een flinke knuffel geeft. Blijf gezond en geniet van alles wat op jullie pad komt. -
